Classroom InformationBirthdays
You may send birthday treats to school on or near your child’s birthday or half-birthday if their birthday falls during the summer. Please let me know in advance if your child is bringing treats. Please do not send drinks. Please send something that is prepared individually or already cut and not too messy. Napkins would be appreciated. You can drop treats off in the morning, send them with your child, or leave them in the office. We usually share birthday treats around 2:45. It is a school policy that students may NOT pass out birthday party invitations at school, unless the entire class is invited to the party. Book Clubs I will send home book orders on a monthly basis. You may order online at scholastic.com. Orders online earn us extra books! It usually takes a couple of weeks for delivery. Our classroom code for Scholastic is: HGY6T Captain of the Week Each week a student will be featured as our “Captain of the Week”. I will send home the poster to be completed, which is to be turned in by Friday of the special week. On Friday of that week the Captain may bring his/her favorite book to share, objects for estimation, and a school appropriate show-and-tell. Parents are welcome to come in on Friday to read the book to the class. Just communicate with me on a time and we can set it up. Please feel free to eat lunch with your child during his/her special week. Grading
Students will receive trimester reports ever 12 weeks. Conferences are scheduled for November and February. If you would need a conference at a different time of the year, just let me know. Don’t feel that you need to wait for the scheduled conference time. The more we communicate the better your child’s 2 grade experience will be! Homework Homework in fourth grade allows for skill practice and builds life-long study skills. Helping your child take charge of their homework, choosing a consistent time and spot to study, will go a long way to your student finding success and independence with homework. Nightly assignments will consist of reading and an additional assignment. Homework is due the following day and is promptly graded in class and returned. Everyday Folder An Everyday Folder comes home nightly and needs to be returned the next day. Completed work will be sent home in the folder. Check the folder for incomplete work (will have a note on in) that needs to be finished and returned. |
Medication
Any medication needed for your child at school must be delivered to the school nurse with a doctor’s note. Parent Communication Friday Folders will be sent home every week (except 3-day weeks and before a holiday week). Your child will receive marks for work habits. Please review these marks with your child, sign the folder, and return on Monday. A newsletter will be sent home at the beginning of each month. I will also so send email updates as needed. If there is anything I need to know about your child’s day, please send a note or email. Also, I have planning time most days from 9:20 to 10:10. I can be reached before and after school as well. E-mail works really well for me: [email protected] If you need to get a message to me about dismissal changes in the afternoon you may need to call the office. I don’t often check my email while I am teaching and may miss it! If you need to get a hold of me right away my cell phone number is 573-356-5865 (please no calls after 9:00 pm). I am here for you and your child so let me know if I can help in any way. Snacks
Students may bring a HEALTHY snack each day. Please send a snack that is easily manageable and not too messy. Students may also bring a water bottle with a pop top. Transportation Changes Send a note or email me if there is a transportation change on any given day. Call the office by 2:00 if I have not responded to your email, just in case I didn’t see it in time or am absent. Web Page, Twitter, Bloomz We use a classroom web page Twitter, and Bloomz to communicate the activities in our classroom. Frequently students will actively post on these sites. From time to time photos of students will be included as well. Considering the digital existence of your child is a weighty issue for parents. Please know that if you prefer your child not be featured on the web page, Twitter or Bloomz. I completely understand. Just let me know and I am happy to make that accommodation. |
